UNIFE targets vehicle authorization improvements
This week, the UNIFE Vehicle Authorisation Mirror Group (VA MG) met to assess the outcome of the kick-off meeting of the new Working Party on Vehicle Authorisation (WP VA) of the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), which was held on 4 July in Valenciennes. The mission of the new working party is to promote best practices, in order to facilitate the uniform implementation of the provisions of the Fourth Railway Package. The working group will contribute with proposals for efficiency gains in the Vehicle Authorisation authority and applicant processes.
During the kick-off meeting, many areas for potential improvements were identified based on the return of experience of ERA, the National Safety Authorities (NSAs) and the sector applicants. The UNIFE VA MG provided the European rail supply industry’s experience in the meeting and, will now be responsible for assessing the prioritisation level and defining proposals for different action points.
The future outputs of this working party could lead to updated guidance, revision of the relevant legislation and enhancement of the IT systems within the EU vehicle authorisation process.
